Other Interesting Points - Schoolroom furniture was quite plain prior to the 1890s, with classrooms filled with simple wooden tables and benches. That changed in 1889 when Anna Breadin patented the first cast iron framed desk with a wooden top that also incorporated a lift up top for storage and ink well reservoir for use with dip pens. The example for sale is a later development of this design (mid 20th Century) and is a folding version developed for exams so that it could be stored quite easily when not in use. These are now becoming popular in the modern home as an ideal desk for laptop computers, which also invoke memories of younger years....Good or Bad you choose! :)
