Item - Hard to Find Large Loving Cup produced by Royal Doulton of Stoke-On-Trent, England in 1936 complete with original certificate. This Rather Large and spectacular Royal Doulton Loving Cup was designed by Charles Noke and Harry Fenton and was issued in January 1936 as part of a limited edition of 2000 (believe they only actually produced just over 1,000) and is numbered 586 on the base and on the certificate. The loving cup has two handles which are incised with the various names of the commonwealth countries Canada, Australia, India, South Africa, New Zealand, Ceylon, Kenya, Tasmania, Jamaica, Trinidad and Barbados. The front of the large loving cup is decorated with the King in profile wearing the coronation regalia below an archway entitled 'Empire'. This is surrounded by flags with the legends 'George RI' and 'God Save the King' below, to the left are trumpeters and to the right the Lord Chancellor and members of the order of chivalry. The reverse of the loving cup shows St. George on horseback in front of Windsor Castle among heraldic devices and commonwealth flags. The base of the loving cup is under glaze printed with the details - THE LOVING CUP JANUARY 1936 DECEMBER TO THE CELEBRATE THE REIGN OF HIS GRACIOUS MAJESTY EDWARD VIII KING OF ENGLAND EMPEROR OF INDIA LOVED AND HONOURED BY ALL HIS LOYAL PEOPLE THE EDITION IS 2000 THIS IS No. 586. and also the royal doulton stamp. The loving comes complete with it's original certificate.

Condition - Excellent Condition with no chips or cracks having spent it's life sat in a display cabinet...the certificate has been folded into quarters and there is a little bit of splitting to one fold and a little bit of edge wear (please see pics)
Other Interesting Points - This stunning large loving cup was produced by the the famous pottery maker Doutlon of Burslem for the Coronation of Edward VIII who became King after the death of his father King George V in January 1936, the coronation was to be held on the 12th May 1937 though this was not to happen as he abdicated in December 1936 to marry the American Wallis Simpson, and they became the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and George VI became King of England. The loving cup is not only large in size but also the finest quality with superb detailing, without doubt not your average souvenir coronation piece.
