Other Interesting Points - PEL or Practical Equipment Limited was founded in Oldbury, West Midlands in 1931 by a consortium of steel tube manufacturers. The company set out with a goal to produce metal furniture for the British market similar to continental firms such as Thonet, this was helped along in their first year of business as they won the contract to furnish the BBC's headquarters at Langham Place in London. PEL were extremely important in the history of design as they took the ideas and styles promoted by famous designers from the continent and introduced them as mass-produced British style. PEL is one of the most unrecognised yet already collectable makers from the 20th century with certain examples of their work selling at Auction for upwards of £500.....
