Item - Vintage Brass Sacker's Patent Hygienic Comb with Instructions in original envelope packet, Circa 1940s; the little metal comp comes complete with directions for use with advertisement to rear. This comb was first developed in the 1920s (please see below), but this example is an early patent pending example dating from the early 1940s as the front of the instructions is printed with an image of the comb and the provisional patent from 1942 (please see pics)

Marks - Stamped - SACKER'S HYGIENIC COMB stamped to comb (please see all photos).

Circa - 1940s

Construction -  Solid Brass (marked on the envelope as Silver Plated though this was probably only quite a thin layer and with use and age this is no longer present)

Country of Origin - England

Dimensions - 2" x 1.875"

Weight - 22 gram

Condition - Very Good Used Condition, though there is a dew light scratches to the comb (please see all photos)

Other Interesting Points - In the 1920s the Sacker's (a Family of Barbers) developed a fine toothed metal comb (as for sale) capable or removing the egg & shells of head lice. However, it required a practised worker to perform the process effectively and fairly painlessly. Nurses in Schools continued to use the tool even after the introduction of insecticidal shampoos and lotions, to distinguish treated from untreated heads; School Nurses have carried out head inspections in Schools since 1890........I am sure we all remember so fondly the visits from Nitty Nora the Bug Explorer.....

(Please see all Photos).
