Other Interesting Points - Bird's Custard was first produced by Alfred Bird in 1837, because his wife was allergic to eggs, the key ingredient used to thicken traditional custard. The custard soon became popular and Alfred Bird and Sons of Birmingham was established. The company was one of the first users of promotional items and colourful advertising campaigns, though it was not until 1929 that the famous 'three bird' logo was introduced. The original custard factory has long gone, but the larger factory Bird's opened in Gibb Street remains and now houses the Custard Factory Arts Centr. Bird's Spongie was a Sponge Cake mixture used to make Swiss Roll Sandwich, etc...
