Item - Vintage Acme City 'HELP' Whistle with two piece top, this particular example was made for Roy Christie Fashions Co Ltd of Leicester, England by Hudson of Birmingham, Circa 1976. The 'HELP' whistle was advertised in magazines at the time as a simple, effective answer for individuals in distress and a must for old age pensioners, invalids, blind and deaf persons to summon assistance in an emergency; also for those who have to work or travel alone at night such as nurses, pump attendants, shift workers and bar staff - as an excellent deterrent to muggers and molesters. It was also noted that the 'HELP' whistle would provide protection for householders - a frightening experience for would be burglars. The Whistle was available in Nickel Plate and Gold Plate as a keyring or a chain... this particular example comes on a cord with a capsule... the capsule would have been so the owner could put a small piece of paper in with their medical information.
