Item - Vintage Boxed Wooden 'HPG Series' Chess Set in Original Wooden Box with paper label, Circa 1950/60s. This set was produced by H P Gibson & Sons Limited of 22 Barrett Street, London...a great set in the 'Staunton Style', but also within the box is a couple of press clippings taken from the Daily Mirror, Circa 1972.
The first press clipping explains about a competition that the winners would fly to Iceland for ringside seats for the famous 'Match of the Century' between Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky to be held in Reykjavik, Iceland with a chess based question... the second cutting lists the winners of the competition and the solution to the question... a nice little addition to this rather nice chess set.
