Item - Vintage folding bow steel glove button hook as used by ladies & gents for fastening the buttons on their gloves, Circa 1890-1900s.
The Folding Glove Button Hook was devised so that a glove hook could be carried in the pocket without snagging to the material within, this type of hook folds into the cavity within its looped handle, the hook is then pushed out and locked into place for use.
We here at Retonthenet have seen many folding button hooks on our travels including the Mandoline patent, depose type (French patent), Silver Ones and the more common cut disc type...though the mechanism on this particular example is a little different...the bow handle is grooved out so that the hook sits within and is pinned through...when the hook is folding out it pushes the bow handle apart as it spins then locking back (with a lovely snap) into place for use (please see pics).
