This is a Paper Covered Biscuit Tin that originally contained MacFarlane Lang & Co. ML Assorted Biscuits, Circa 1932; the tin is covered with a printed paper that has a striking geometric design on a blue background.
The tin also features the royal crest of George V and the details MACFARLANE LANG'S M L ASSORTED BISCUITS and the establishment date of 1817. The base of the tin is even more interesting as it appears to have been designed by Mabel Lucie Attwell (though maybe incorrect!) and features the information - ASSORTED CHOCOLATE BISCUITS MACFARLANE, LANG & Co LTD GLASGOW & LONDON.
The base of the tin also features a number 11 label, this was attached by the biscuit packer at the factory in case there was any imperfections or mistakes in the contents
(Please see all Photos).
The Tin measures 11" by 5" (depth of 2.75") and is in Good Used Condition, though as you can see from the photos there is some dark patches; these are caused by the metal oxidising below, there is also slight rubbing to the paper. Paper Covered Tins never survive well due to the nature of their construction, paper on tin!?! Not a great idea; so overall for 70 years this rare tin has done very well (please refer to photos).
