Item - Pair of 1917 Improved Patent Eugen Sandow's Patent Spring Grip Dumb-bells produced by Sandow's Grip Dumb Bell Company of Sandow Hall, Bury Street, London, Circa 1913-20s; the company also had works in Burnham, Birmingham, Berlin, Paris and New York.
Based on the earlier Patent Sandow Dumbbells these are the improved Patent design which featured grooves and depressions that were adapted to receive the fingers of the user and the other half of the dumbbell having a graduated hump to confirm to the thick part of the thumb against which it may rest.
This set of dumbbells will come complete with a copy of the original US patent paperwork and the accompanying drawing that was submitted September 4th 1913 by Eugen Sandow and granted for Patent on June 12th 1917.
Maker - Sandow Grip Dumb-Bell Company of Sandow Hall, Bury Street, London, EnglandStamps - The Weights are not stamped with any makers marks... so most likely an early version of this particular design prior to the Patent being granted.
Construction - Cast Iron with Steel Springs and red vinyl/leatherette grips
Circa - 1913-20s
Dimensions - 6" in length
Weight - 2620 grams (the pair)
Condition - Weights are in Excellent Used Condition, though there is one spring missing from each dumbbell, this could be replaced if required (please refer to photos)
