Item - This is a pair of Hard to Find Nickel Plated Eugen Sandow's Patent 'Boys' 4 Spring Grip Dumb-bells in Original Box made by Sandow's Grip Dumb Bell Company of Victoria Embankment, Savoy Corner, London, Circa 1900s; the company also had works in Burnham, Birmingham, Berlin, Paris and New York.
The Sandow Spring-grip weights were made in 5 different types :- Children (2 Spring), Girls (3 Spring), Boys (4 Spring), Youths (5 Spring), Ladies (6 Spring) and Gentlemen (7 Spring); with this particular pair being a boys size.
Maker - Sandow Grip Dumb-Bell Company of Victoria Embankment, Savoy Corner, London, England
Stamps - The Weights are cast to their grips with SANDOW'S PATENT.
Construction - Nickel Plated Cast Iron with Steel Springs.
Circa - 1900s
Dimensions - 6" in length
Weight - 1121 grams in Original Box (each dumbbell approx 500 grams)
Condition - Weights are in Very Good Used Condition complete with all springs though there is some slight wear to the plating, the box is present but very rubbed and areas of damage. (please refer to photos)
Other Interesting Points - Eugen Sandow (April 2, 1867 – October 14, 1925), born Friederich Wilhelm Müller, was a pioneering bodybuilder of the Victorian era and is often referred to as the "Father of Modern Bodybuilding".
