Item - Scarce William Marples (Hibernia Works) Registered Self Fastening Marking Gauge, Circa 1885-1895; this particular marking gauge features a six sided head that when turned anti-clockwise allows the head to slide up and down and when the desired measurement is set it can be locked into place by turning the head clockwise, superb design... but it appears it did not catch on as it only features in Marples catalogues from 1885 to 1895. The Tool is stamped to the head with the makers mark and the Design Registration Number 2411 which was granted to Marples by the British Patent Office in 1884 (Please see all Pics)
