NOS Vintage Arthur Douglas Ltd Cardiff Lunar Flask Insulated 1960s Thermos VW Glow in the Dark Moon

Item - Vintage NOS 'Lunar' Insulated Flask for keeping food hot when away from home, Circa 1960s; the flask has a phosphor lid that when energised by light glows in the dark. The Flask comes complete with its original printed paper label (please see all photos)

Maker - Arthur Douglas Limited of Penarth Road, Cardiff 

Stamps - This appears that it must have been an early example as the top is moulded with OPEN and CLOSE; yet there are no other details marked to the flask.

Circa - 1960s (Lunar....Moon Landing Inspired?)

Construction - Plastic

Country of Origin - Wales

Dimensions - 5.625" height (4" in diameter)

Weight - 230 gram

Condition - Excellent Unused Condition

Other Interesting Points - This Flask is completely unused and was recently uncovered in the stock room of an old shop.....overall though 'As New'; there is a small mark as seen in picture 2 where an original price sticker has been.

The Lunar Flask was designed for drinking directly out of the flask or food could be taken out with a spoon, for best results it was recommended that you pre-heated with boiling water if you required the food to be hot or cool with Ice if the food was required to be cold. The Lunar Flask will hold .32 litre and was made by Arthur Douglas Limited of Penarth Road, Cardiff, UK., Arthur is probably better known for bringing us the 'Caddymatic' Tea Dispensing Machine. The flask was designed with children's safety and hunger in mind.....and featured a carrying strap so that flask would not be dropped and nice well fitting screw top cap.....the cap also featured a further safety design.....a phosphor edge.....which glows in the dark after being exposed to bright light. The Lunar Flask is extremely hard to find and recognise as apart from its design there is no other marks to distinguish this item......even harder to find one with its original paper label.....a true design icon of its time.....but possibly not the most successful.
