Brief History of Hall's

Halls' is arguably most famous for it's popular mentholated cough drop sweet. Hall's was established in 1893 by the Hall Brothers in Whitefield, Manchester. The sweet factory in Stanley Road produced a wide range of confectionery including boiled sweet, chocolates and "State" Toffee, though it was not until the 1930s that production of Halls cough drops would come about. Unfortunately in the early 1960s the business was struck by disaster, when a large fire tore through the factory. In 1964 Warner-Lambert was to acquire Hall's and the factory was re-built and re-opened, continuing operations until the late 1980s when production was ceased. The building was knocked down and the land is now occupied by a Morrison's supermarket car park. Hall's the brand...well that is still going strong and currently owned by a subsidiary of Cadbury's.
