Item - Scarce Antique Boxed H. Broom Spring Type Wooden Dumbells/Grip Strengtheners in Black, Circa 1930s 

Maker - Produced for H. Broom of Broom Hall, 553 Holderness Road, Hull, England

Stamps - The Front of the box has the printed image of H. Broom and also the details - H. BROOM HOLDER OF CERTIFIED WORLD'S RECORDS. BRITAIN'S PREMIER P.C. EXPERT SUPPLIED ONLY BY H.BROOM, Broom Hall, 553 Holderness Rd, HULL.

Material Type - Wood with Metal Springs and retaining brackets

Circa - 1930s

Dimensions - 5" by 2.5" each (Box measurements 6" square; depth 2.125")

Weight for the Pair - 303 gram (this type of equipment did not require to be heavy as it was more for strengthening the grip) - In box they weigh 433g.

Condition - Weights are in Excellent Condition appearing to have very little use, the box is in Good Used Condition with a few light rubs, bit of colour fading and some staining (please refer to photos)

Other Interesting Points - These Spring Grip Dumbbells were marketed by H.Broom of Broom Hall, 553 Holderness Rd, Hull, England, Circa 1930s and are very similar in shape & design to the spring grip dumbbells produced by Eugen Sandow, Circa 1900/30s; the main difference is in the material used for construction, Sandow's Weights were produced out of cast metal where as Broom's are made from Wood... Both very much leaders in the Physical Culture World during their time.
