Item - Antique 1921 Patent Nickel Plated Oval Recording Home Safe Money Box issued by Cumberland Co-Operative Building Society, Issue Number of 1900, No Key.
This particular example is stamped to the base with Patent Number 168,828 and the Patent Date - JUNE 11, 1921, the particular patent was granted to The Automatic Recording Safe Co. Ltd of London, England, it is a oval type with separate compartments for all coin slots (Penny or Half Crown, Shilling, x2 slots for Six Pence and a extra slot for Small Coins) there is also a circular hole to the base for notes (Please see all photos).

Other Interesting Points - A Home Safe is generally accepted to mean a money box issued by a Bank, Building Society or other institution between 1900 and 1960s.
The Home Safe would be issued to a account holder but not the key, this was held onto by the bank, so that when the home safe was full it had to be returned to the Bank, who would then open it and deposit the money into the customers account, although many banks specified that the money remain in the account for a certain time, there were some that allowed instant access, but not many! When this type of saving was phased out some customers went to the bank, building society, etc... and asked for the key so that they could carry on using the box to save... there is now replacement keys being made and sold.
