Item - Original Antique Metropolitan GSW (General Service Whistle) Whistle produced by J. Hudson & Co of 13 Barr Street, Birmingham, England for Nesthill (Ernest Hill Ltd of Sheffield), Circa 1920/30s.
Ernest Hill Limited was (and still is) an engineering & manufacturing company established in 1841. The trademark name 'Nesthill' (derived from the founder’s two names), was an air compressor pump designed for a veterinary surgeon John Boyd Dunlop which was developed to inflate the prototype pneumatic tyre he had invented for his bicycle, this led to a range of foot pumps for cars , including the ‘Major’, ‘Compact’ and ‘Jupiter’, these pumps were supplied to many of the large, high quality cars of the 1920’s and 1930’s, including Rolls Royce's and Daimlers as part of their toolkits.
