Item - Antique French Ceramic Photo Paint Plate depicting a Mother & Daughter, Dated 1917 (please see all photos). Photo Paint plates was a technique pioneered around the beginning of the 20th Century, the process was to take a photographic image apply to a ceramic plate blank and then to paint around the image in oils to add a background to the studio shot image. This particular example was produced by the studio - Maison Ceady of Rue des Metres, Graville Ste., Honorine, France.
Maker - Plate maker unknown, but studio work undertook by Ceady House
Stamps - The plate is stamped with 3B and J4 and also has an under glaze 'x' ; the rear of the plate also features the studio's original paper label. The front of the plate is signed with a reference number and the date 1917.
