Item - HTF Antique Simplex Patent Skirt Lifter by H K & Co., Circa 1880-1900; this skirt lifter (or dress holder) would have been attached to the waistband or chatelaine by means of a ribbon, chain or cord to the ring at the top so that it was at hand to lift the skirt up away from the ground, often used at the time whilst taking on pastimes such as tennis or cycling. Due to the construction of this particular example we believe that it was more intended for use whilst taking part in pastimes such as cycling. The more elaborate and sleeker designs would have been used for more social events (please see all photos)
