Item - Antique Boxed Bernard's Patent 'Kutter' Paper Piercer, Circa 1890/1910; as manufactured by W.Schollhorn Company of New Haven, Conn., USA and distributed in the USA by B. Lawrence Stationery Company of New York, USA; this particular example was distributed in the UK by Hyde & Co. of 25 St Bride Street, London, England (Please see all Photos).
The 'Kutter' was based on William Alexander Bernard's (New York) Compound Plier Patent of May 6th 1890 and was described at the time as a New Cutting Tool with a parallel movement designed to pierce holes in papers to easily admit the insertion of a round flat headed paper fastener.
The 'Kutter' was able to punch through a quarter of an inch of paper and was used by any businesses that required the constant use of paper fasteners including Banks, Insurance Companies, Corporations, Solicitors, Court Houses, etc...who found this simple but useful tool a labour saver.
It was also noted at the time that the 'Kutter' could penetrate in one operation eighty sheets of thick, or one hundred and sixty sheets of the paper.
This particular example comes to you in Excellent Used Condition and complete with it's original box.
