Other Interesting Points - Brief History of BCH Limited (Brierley, Collier & Hartley)

Luke Collier & Son was established in 1835, William Brierley sets up his  brass foundry in Rochdale to make machinery for confectioners and Thomas Hartley founded his business as a confectioner in 1870. In 1913, William Brierley was to purchase Luke Collier's and then in 1924, Brierley & Colliers businesses were to amalgamate with Thomas Hartley & Son to form Brierley, Collier & Hartley (BCH); a new factory was established and a London office opened.
Over the past 160 years, BCH and their founding companies have filed more patents for confectionery and jam-making machines than any other company. They became pioneers, growing the business by designing innovative confectionery equipment, specialist fabrications for nuclear industry and providing turnkey plants to food producers in-line with the new trends for convenience foods and are still based in Rochdale and still going strong.
