Item - Very Hard to Find Antique Butcher Midg No.1 Falling 1/4 Plate Camera, Circa 1900/10s; complete with its original 6 metal plate carriers (numbered 1 to 6) and 4 glass plates. The majority of the Midg range had room for 12 metal plate carriers though this particular example was only ever intended to carry six, the glass plates are slid into their carriers and then placed onto the spring loaded rack at the rear of the camera, when the shutter was released and the image taken the lever at the top was pushed across and the exposed plate would fall face down into the light proof chamber at the bottom of the camera.

Now to the really interesting story about this make & model of camera....it is in fact one of the two cameras that was used by Elsie & Frances Wright to take the very famous Cottingley Fairy Photographs...if you have never read or heard this story before then please read here. The actual original camera used by the two girls back in 1917 noew resides the National Photography Museum in Bradford, England (please see all photos)
