Item - Original Antique High Quality 19th Century Silver Plated 'Beaufort' Whistle, Circa 1880s; this particular example is not marked with the makers name but after careful consideration and comparing to other known Whistles including the one shown on Page 33 of Martyn Gilchrist's 'More Whistles' Book we believe this whistle to have been made by James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield, England.
This type of whistle was often used by Light Infantry Regiments at the time and would have been attached by a chain to an officers uniform.
