Vintage Gray of Oxford Optician Spectacles Glasses Repairs Posting Box Circa 1930s

This is a vintage optician spectacles repairs box as used when sending spectacles/glasses through the post for repairs or adjustments. This particular example appears to have never been posted, though quite often this type of box can be found with stamps and postmarks attached. The box is made from 2mm thick card and has metal supports to the edges of the corners (please refer to photos). The front of the box is embossed in black with the details - ALBERT P. GRAY, F.I.O., Consulting Ophthalmic Optician 5 Market St., OXFORD Phone 2637. The box lid pulls off to reveal the inside of the base which is also embossed with further details and reads - The repairing of frames and the replacing of broken lenses should-on no account be entrusted to inexperienced persons. Should the Spectacles at any future time need repairs or alterations, they should be carefully packed in this box (without the case) and sent together with name and address of sender and full instructions to :- ALBERT F.
