
Item - This is a fantastic vintage farming tool, a bent wood long handled Scythe, Circa 1900-1920s made by W A Tyzack & Co. of Stella Works, Sheffield, England. The tool has a 23" blade with cast iron fittings stamped with the makers mark of W A TYZACK & CO STELLA WORKS SHEFFIELD; the tool also features its original two wooden grip handles, though one is missing its holding nut. The Grip handles can be obtained brand new for about a tenner if required.

Other Interesting Points - William Alexander Tyzack (1836-1889), founded a tool company in 1868, with twenty employees; the company was known as W. A. Tyzack and Co. Ltd was located at Stella works, Hereford Street, Sheffield. These premises were sold in 1986.
