Vintage Farming Tool Long Handled Scythe W A Tyzack & Co. Stella Works Sheffield England Circa 1900s


Item - This is a fantastic vintage farming tool, a bent wood long handled Scythe, Circa 1900-1920s made by W A Tyzack & Co. of Stella Works, Sheffield, England. The tool has a 23" blade with cast iron fittings stamped with the makers mark of W A TYZACK & CO STELLA WORKS SHEFFIELD; the tool also features its original two wooden grip handles, though one is missing its holding nut. The Grip handles can be obtained brand new for about a tenner if required.

Marks - Stamped W A TYZACK & CO. STELLA WORKS SHEFFIELD

Circa - 1900/30s

Construction -  Wooden Shaft/Snath and Grips - Metal Blade and Fittings

Country of Origin - England

Dimensions - 5ft Shaft (Blade Length - 23.5")

Weight - 2.75 kilogram

Condition - Excellent Used Condition apart from the aforementioned nut missing from one of the grips (please see all photos) 

Other Interesting Points - William Alexander Tyzack (1836-1889), founded a tool company in 1868, with twenty employees; the company was known as W. A. Tyzack and Co. Ltd was located at Stella works, Hereford Street, Sheffield. These premises were sold in 1986.
