Item - Vintage Shop (most likely grocers) Weighing Scales complete with a full set of Cast Iron/Brass Weights, Circa 1940s. The scales are inset with a Weights & Measures verification mark, this inturn is stamped with the Crown mark of George VI and the county mark for West Riding of Yorkshire
Maker - Unknown (Avery?)
Marks - No makers marks to the scales but most likely to be Avery as the 2 largest weights are cast with the Avery name.
Circa - 1940/50s
Construction - Enamelled Cast Iron Body/Large Enamel Pan/Cast Iron and Brass Weights
Country of Origin - England
Dimensions - 16.5" by 15.5" (height 10.5")
Weight - V. Heavy 11 Kilogram (Scales & Weights Unpackaged)
Condition - Very Good Used Condition; though there is two chips to the enamel to one side of the body of the scales, these have been painted in at sometime in the scales life; there is also some light damage to the pan; general wear and tear! The Scales are in full working order (please see all photos)
Other Interesting Points - A very nice set of genuine shop scales that include a full set of weights as follows - Avery of Birmingham Cast Iron 4lb weight, Avery of Birmingham Cast Iron 2lb weight, Unmarked 1lb Cast Iron Weight, Unmarked 8oz Cast Iron Weight, Unmarked 4oz Cast Iron Weight, a 2oz Brass Weight and 1oz Brass Weight.
