Dreams - What exactly causes a dream, nobody can say. We do know, however, that when the mind is allowed by sleep to wander uncontrolled it conjures up some very interesting and remarkable thoughts. The only difficulty is to know how to give them their true meaning. Fortunately, the science of interpreting dreams is a very old one; it existed long before The Bible was written and it has been practised continuously to the present day. During all that time, people have been collecting evidence to show that certain dreams have particular meanings. They have studied thousands upon thousands of cases before arriving at any conclusions. It is based upon the knowledge gained in this way that this book has been based. Should you wish to find out the meaning of a dream that you have experienced, the best plan is first, to recall all the incidents connected with it and then, to decide which one of them constitutes the main feature. When this point is settled, the rest is easy. A reference to the appropriate heading applies the information required. Two cautions must be given. The first is to make certain that a minor detail of the dream is not mistaken for the central feature; and the second is not to confuse a real dream with a fleeting thought, which passes through the mind, when you are half awake. The two are totally different and the latter has no useful significance at all.
Tea Cup Fortunes - Although fortune-telling is anything but an exact science, a great deal of harmless amusement may be derived from it, particularly the interpreting of leaf-pictures formed in the tea cup. From the earliest times people have endeavoured to predict forthcoming events. Hence the cult of omens, symbols, fortune-telling by reading the palms of the hands, and the deciphering of pictures formed by the tea-leaves has grown up.
