This is a rare vintage nickel plated cast iron bottle opener made to advertise PHIPPS ALES, Circa 1920/30s. The Opener is cast to both sides with - PHIPPS ALES, the opener is also cast to the top of the mouth both sides with the Design Registration Number 702661 (this granted in 1923) giving us the date of Circa 1920/30s.
Phipps Northampton Brewery Co Ltd like so many local breweries is no longer operating after being swallowed up by the Big Brewers in the 1960's and 1970's. In its day Phipps Northampton Brewery Beer was supplied to numerous Pubs and Off Licenses in many Counties including Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Befordshire and Cambridgeshire.The end of the line was when the brewery was knocked down to make way for the Carlesberg Brewery in Northampton in 1974.
